The Sports & Recreation segment displays Muhammad Ali’s boxing boot, Yogi Berra’s sneakers, one of Derek Jeter’s sports shoes and the cleats of former New York Giants defensive end Michael Strahan and of New York Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez. A special display features a pair of sneakers worn by former Giants defensive end George Martin during his walk across the U.S.

“My love of shoes, fashion and making art quilts meshed when I decided to make the ‘Fancy Footwork’ quilt in 2008,” Appell said. “The quilt represents a range of shoe styles that were aesthetic, unique, well-designed and personally appealing.”
